In my magic system, magic is constructed and cast using an extremely complex language that is only partially understood. Because it is so complicated, the average spellcaster can only grasp a fraction of the language.. There are multiple different approaches to casting magic, and practitioners of each approach are known by different names. I was inspired by JRPGs, so each approach functions simularily to adventuring classes. It's worth noting that without the constrains of a video game's programming, the lines between each class can be vague.
Class | Known for | Role | Approach |
Wizard | The most famous wizards are members of royal courts and high seats of government. Many of them are also on the forefront of academic thought. However, you are more likely to encounter a wizard using their magic for odd jobs, such as levitating heavy objects across town. | Typically Damage, although Support is quite common. | Wizards use magic as an external force to perform tasks. |
Warlocks | Many famous warlocks are part of a noble family that pass their arcane artifacts down through the generations. Common-born warlocks can inehrit their artifacts as well, but it is just as common to stumble across one that had been abandoned or lost by its previous weilder. | Warlocks are quite varied, but most professionals will Tank. | Warlocks have enchanted artifacts that give them control over a certain domain of power. |
Witches | Witches are known firstly as medical practitioners. The most well known witches are skilled and sought-after doctors. Even the smallest village tends to have at least one witch, so it is seen as an essential role within a community. | They will almost always preform Support, but its not unheard of for one to Tank as well. | Witches can change the attributes of their target. |
